A tripartite meeting of the presidents of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan to discuss energy cooperation and security-related issues will be held today (Thursday). During the three-nation summit, Pakistan will be represented by President Asif Ali Zardari, while Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon would represented their respective countries. Besides discussion on the ways and means to enhance regional cooperation in trade, energy, communication and transportation, the leaders of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan are expected to deliberate on the challenges facing the region including terrorism and production and trafficking of drugs and illicit weapons. A quadripartite meeting with participation of the leaders of the three countries and the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will also take place on Friday to further deliberate the issues faced by the region.
