NBP notch second victory

KARACHI National Bank of Pakistan edged past Wapda 4-3 for their second win in the Quaid-e-Azam Cup Hockey Tournament here at HCP on Thursday. Sharing first session honors with the opponents (two goals each), the bankers added two in the second session to maintain their unbeaten record in the championship which is sponsored by Pakistan Customs. Yasir Shabbir netted two of the four NBP goals and Muhammad Ateeq and Muhammad Nadeem added one goal each. Pakistans former Olympian and world record holder Sohail Abbas struck twice through PC for the Wapda team which got its third goal through Muhammad Imran. On Wednesday Wapda had outplayed Punjab 7-1 with Sohail getting two goals. Host Pakistan Customs which had won its opening match against the visiting Ghana Customs on the first day of the contest, suffered 5-3 first defeat at the hands of Habib Bank in the second match of the event on second day. Habib Bank, a team comprising young players totally dominated the contest. They led 3-1 at half time and added two more after changing ends. Rana Zubair and Abdul Qayyum slammed two goals each while Nasir Shahzad added fifth goal for the winners. Pakistan Customs which have inducted a couple of guest players in the team scored through Muhammad Ahsan, Imran and Rao Amir. In the third match of the day, Port Qasim playing at OISSA ground located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood defeated Punjab 4-2. Owais Khan, (2), Ali Azlan and Malik Shafiq scored for the port men. For Punjab which suffered its second defeat in a row got their goals through Hafiz Rizwan who got both the goals for the losers. On Friday, the visiting Ghana Customs team will play their second match when they face Sindh at HCP. Other matches on Friday are: Steel Mills v HBL, and Port Qasim v Wapda.
