Crime rate in Capital over 100pc up

ISLAMABAD - During the first six months of ongoing year the crime rate has increased by over 10o per cent compared to the last year in the Federal Capital, revealed the crime data available with TheNaton. Despite tall claims of Ministry of Interior, district administration and high-ups of Islamabad police, the crime rate in Federal Capital is increasing drastically. This rapid increase in the crimes is creating sense of insecurity and lawlessness among the citizens, businessmen, corporate sector organisations and entire segments of the society. According to the crime data available with this newspaper, during the last year, 3196 cases of various crimes were registered with Islamabad Police. However, during the first six months of the ongoing year the number of cases registered are 3605. The nature of cases include murder, attempt-to-murder, injuries, rape kidnapping, accidents (fatal accident, non-fatal accident), dacoity, robbery, day burglary and general theft, carjacking, cheque dishonour and others. Out of total 3605 cases during ongoing year-2011, 890 were registered with the City Circle, 1253 registered with Saddar Circle, 603 with Industrial Area, and 859 were registered with Rural Zone of Islamabad police. However, during twelve months of last year-2010 out of 3196 cases, 711 were lodged with the City Zone, 1177 with Saddar Zone, 603 with Industrial Area Zone and 705 with Rural Zone of Islamabad Police. Comparison of crime data of year- 2010 and six months of year-2011 shows that crime rate in ongoing year has increased up to over 100 per cent compared to the last year-2010. The heights number of crime incidents occurred in Saddar Zone while the City Circle stood second, Industrial Area Zone third and Rural Zone forth. During year-2011, out of 58 murder cases the highest number of 23 cases were registered with Saddar Zone, 20 with Rural Zone, 8 with City Zone and 7 with Industrial Area Zone of Islamabad Police. Out of 112 robbery incidents, 20 occurred in the City Zone, 47 in the Saddar Zone, 22 in Industrial Area Zone and 23 in the Rural Zone of Islamabad Police. Police have concealed the data of robbery in the city.
