Municipal workers’ protest rally for salaries tomorrow

KARACHI - Municipal Workers Trade Union Alliance (MWTUA) has announced protest demonstration against Sindh Finance Department for the non-payment of last month’s salaries.
According to a statement, thousands of employees of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, (defunct) Karachi Development Authority and district municipal corporations will hold protest rally on July 31. The employees will gather at Karachi Press Club and they would stage protest demonstration outside Chief Minister House and Sindh Governor House.
This was announced in a meeting by Chairman MWTUA Syed Zulfikar Shah and MWTUA General Secretary Farid Awan. Earlier, the MWTUA had given a deadline of July 16 to authorities concerned for payment of the salaries.
Shah said that they would hold peaceful demonstrations but the management would be solely responsible if any unwanted situation occurred.
 He said that due to negligence of Sindh Finance Department, 35,000 employees of Municipal Departments and 3,000 pensioners are facing serious financial problems. He added that they would hold protest demonstrations at any cost on July 31 which would continue till salaries were accordingly paid.
