LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that maximum resources are being utilized for controlling energy crisis as electricity is essential for strengthening of economy and development of the country. He said that government is attaching top priority to resolving energy problem and all out encouragement is being extended to local and foreign investors in this regard. 
He was talking to a delegation of prominent Chinese company Norinco International at Chief Minister’s Office here Monday. Provincial Energy Minister Sher Ali Khan, Secretary Energy, Project Director Ring Road Authority, Director General LDA and concerned officials were present.
Talking to the Chinese delegation, the Chief Minister said that China is a trusted friend of Pakistan and has played a commendable role in its development. He said that Chinese companies are also extending vigorous cooperation in resolving energy crisis and agreements have been signed with several Chinese companies for cooperation in the sector of coal and solar energy.
He welcomed the offer of Norinco International of setting up solar power plant and said that the agreement will soon be given a final shape in this regard. He said that Norinco International should visit Cholistan for considering setting up a solar energy project of 1000 megawatts in the area and financial model of implementation of the agreement should also be prepared. The delegation of Norinco International expressed willingness for investment in energy sector in Pakistan and said that the company is ready to help Pakistan in overcoming shortage of electricity.
Meanwhile, another Chinese delegation of a solar company TBEA met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and discussed matters regarding of initiating solar energy projects in Punjab. Provincial Energy Minister Sher Ali Khan, Secretary Energy, concerned officers, International General Manager TBEA China Mr. Hou Peng and other office-bearers were also present.
Talking to the delegation, Chief Minister said Pakistan is a poor country and needs to generate power at minimum cost, therefore, measures are being taken for acquiring useful cost effective technology for coping with energy problem. The Chief Minister said that the Chinese company TBEA has expertise in solar technology and Punjab wants to benefit from its experience. Officials of TBEA also gave a briefing to the Chief Minister on solar technology.
