LAHORE: Punjab Excise and Taxation (E&T) Director General Hamayun Mazhar Sheikh was transferred and made OSD reportedly because of failing in smooth supply of registration number plates to the motorists, said sources on Monday.

They said the Punjab chief minister took notice of the pendency of number plates and expressed his displeasure over the issue. After Sheikh’s transfer the excise secretary will look after the office of the DG. No further orders were issued so far to fill the slot of DG.  At present more than 1,000,000 vehicles were registered but number plates were not issued to their owners.–Staff Reporter
