Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) has set August, 6 for indicting Pervez Musharraf in Benazir assassination case besides ordering for defreezing the assets of former president.

Pervez Musharraf appeared before ATC Rawalpindi Tuesday. Copies of the case were distributed among all accused persons including Pervez Musharraf in Benazir assassination case while former president signed the copies of case.

The court directed Pervez Musharraf to appear before it on next hearing. Court observed the accused can not be indicted in his absence, therefore, appearance of Pervez Musharraf in the court be ensured on next hearing.

Stringent security measures were taken on the occasion of appearance  of Pervez Musharraf in the court. Heavy contingent of police, Elite force and Rangers personnel were deployed on this count.

The court also issued orders for restoration of freezed assets of Pervez Musharraf. Earlier the court had reserved its judgment on completion of arguments.

Ilyas Siddiqui counsel for Pervez Musharraf argued that his client appeared in the court during 2 years of proceedings pertaining to  confiscation of his  property. His property could have been confiscated had he not appeared in the court till  2 years, he contended.

He took the plea notice on declaring Pervez Musharraf proclaimed offender was not received. If notice was served on his wife then it did not mean that Pervez Musharraf had received the notice, he further argued.

FIA Prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar said it is mandatory to resort to court within six months in connection with restoration of property. It was in the knowledge of wife of Pervez Musharraf and she had filed application in the court against the confiscation of property.

The court reserved judgment after hearing FIA prosecutor and arguments of counsel of Pervez Musharraf.

Bail plea of Pervez Musharraf was rejected in Akbar Bugti murder case. A 2-member  bench of Balochistan High Court while rendering decision rejected the bail plea of former president.
