FIA arrests major sugar market broker involved in artificial price hike

KARACHI - Federal Investigation Agency on Thursday arrested a major sugar market broker involved in artificial hike in sugar prices. The Anti-Corruption Circle of premier investigation body apprehended Haji Zameer Ahmed, proprietor of Master Corporation, according to spokesperson for the Agency.

The accused was allegedly an active member of the WhatsApp group “Sugar Merchant.”

He along with the owners of sugar mills in Punjab, Sindh and other brokers, used to create artificial hike in sugar prices.  A case has been registered and further investigation was underway.

FIA registers case against companies 

involved in tax related frauds, arrests 3

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday registered a case against the companies involved in issuing fake sales tax invoices and other tax related frauds and arrested three involved accused.

The FIA’s Corporate Crime Circle Karachi registered the case under the directives of Public Accounts Committee, according to spokesman for the Agency. Such companies caused loss of over Rs380 million to national exchequer. 

Arrested accused were identified as Siraj-ul-Haq, Syed Ali Furqan Zaidi and Muhammad Saleem. Further investigations were underway.
