LAHORE - A local lawyer has approached the Lahore High Court against the Director General Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) for removing Race Course Park gate-3 in a contempt petition. Petitioner Shafqat Mehmood Chohan contended that respondent in the presence of court orders removed the gate and cut the trees from the parking area. He said the respondent officials done this in violating of courts order only to close the gate and create hindrance for the people. He, therefore, prayed to the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the respondent and direct him to open the gate for the people. It may be mentioned that court had directed the respondent to demolish the wall erected at the gate-3 of the Race Course Park. The respondent instead of demolishing the wall removed the gate in question and exposed themselves for contempt of court proceedings, petitioner said. Hearing of Shujaat poll plea postponed Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court postponed for July 11 the hearing of an election petition of PML-Q President Ch Shujaat Hussain against Federal Defense Minister Ahmad Mukhtar of PPP. The hearing was adjourned when the arguments of petitioners counsel were in progress. Ch Shujaat who lost election for National Assembly seat NA-105, Gujrat against Ahmad Mukhtar moved the petition. He requested the court to declare him (Mukhtar) as disqualified on the basis of certain irregularities committing during the polling. He alleged that almost at all the polling stations, the PPP workers forcefully barred a number of voters of the petitioner from casting their votes.
