Our media is very active to cover the arrival of IDPs from Swat, Dir and Buner in various camps established by the government and different NGOs. It is good to show the displacement to attract funds and create awareness for those who cannot visualize their miseries. But one thing that I find most painful in the coverage is these people collecting food and other items in long queues or snatching things from the distributor like a pack of hungry dogs. Some newspapers show young girls carrying rotis on their heads. I am sure these small girls do not belong to families given to begging. The photograph may fetch an award for the photographer but look at what it does to the self respect of these respectable people, some of whom had their own businesses and homes in Swat. -MUHAMMAD AZHAR KHWAJA, Lahore, via e-mail, June 9.
