Criminals with hidden faces

It is a common scene on the television that we watch the criminals escorted by police from one place to the other with their faces hidden under the veil. While some cover their head and face with some sort of a cloth others wrap themselves up fully with a sheet (Chaddar). Although their names and offences committed by them are announced their faces are kept hidden from the public view. I think this step is tantamount to encouraging crime rather than decreasing the criminal activity. The exposure of the criminals face is bound to render them outcasts among public in general and the circle of family friends and neighbors in particular. This can act as a deterrent for others and stop them from stepping into the dirty and dangerous field of crime. RAFI NASIM, Lahore, June 28
