KARACHI - Ensuring adequate arrangement for the citizen of Karachi during the holy month of Ramazan, City administration has taken various steps for the consumers in availing essential commodities on concessional rates.

City administration to control the over price mechanism has prepared a Ramazan Package with the co-operation of wholesalers and retailers of grocery items and manufactures of different food items. Traders of Sabzi Mandi will also provide vegetables and fruits to the consumers on  reduced rates through their  stalls to be installed at Bachat Bazars and other specified places.

According to details, the price control committee headed by the Additional Commissioner Karachi was assigned to negotiate with the representatives of whole sellers and retailers to review the rates and bring them down to provide relief to consumers.

In this regard, Price Control Committee held various meetings with the whole sellers and retailers which were also attended by the officials of Bureau of Supply, representatives of Consumers Associations to consult and observe the fixation of prices of essential commodities. This year rates of 75 grocery items have been fixed including pluses, rice, spices, dry fruits and others while Price Control Committee was successful in reducing the rates of 43 items out of 75 items. The reduced from Rs2 to Rs50 in the 43 items brought 75 percent decrease in price. Committee has also held meeting with the representatives of manufacturers and association of shopkeepers to attain concessions on items including flour, bread, oil, ghee, nimko, sweets, samosa, bakery items and tea etc. Flour mills were asked to setup their stalls at all Bachat Bazaars with the concessional rate of Rs36/kg while Bureau of Supply and Inspectors of Food Department, Government of Sindh have been ordered to ensure installation of flour mills’ stalls at Bachat Bazars.

Special steps have been taken to provide vegetables and fruits on concessional rates. Traders at Sabzi Mandi have assured to provide full support to the administration in the efforts to provide reduced rates of vegetable and fruits to the consumers. In addition to this, Deputy Commissioners will also make efforts to provide vegetables and fruits on reduced rates by the special arrangements in their areas via trucks etc.

Committee further declared that prices of meat have not been increased.

Following the traffic congestion at the time of Iftar across the city, administration has made arrangements to maintain traffic flow. Youth commissioner Sindh Boys Scouts Association has prepared a contingency plan in consultation with the Traffic Police for the placement of scouts on various locations for better traffic management. Moreover Senior Director Municipal Services KMC has also prepared a contingency olan for a strategic placement of City Wardens to help mange traffic flow at busy roads and places. City administration for the implementation of the Ramazan Package has decided to take stern actions against the profiteers and all Deputy Commissioners have been asked not to adopt leniency if traders and shopkeepers fail to adhere to this predetermined pricing for the holy month of Ramzan.
