ISLAMABAD - Stressing the need for provision of best services to passengers Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has offered all out support for making PIA one of the leading airlines in the world.

The Premier was visiting the induction ceremony of A320 aircraft in Pakistan International Airline (PIA) here at Islamabad international airport on Sunday. It is almost after 10 years that national flag carrier secured a new plane.

Nawaz Sharif had already approved the inclusion of 14 new aircraft in the PIA fleet. Sharing his views during the visit, he said, "It's pleasing to see the new aircraft being inducted in PIA fleet and expressed the hope that with the initiatives being taken presently, PIA shall soon be revived to its past glory.”

Special Assistant to PM on Aviation Shujaat Azeem, PIA Managing Director Junaid Yunus and Director Flight Operations Captain Qasim Hayat accompanied the prime minister during the visit. Shujaat Azeem told the PM that the airline was in the process of inducting 14 aircraft in its fleet including narrow body, wide body and turbo-prop aircraft.

PIA has placed order for three A320 aircraft from GECAS of which one aircraft has been received while the remaining two will be delivered to PIA in July and September. The Airbus A320 has a seating capacity of 180 seats.

Taking a view of the new aircraft, PM Nawaz said that "he would like to see more Pakistanis travelling with the national flag carrier, which should be the preferred choice of passengers".

He emphasised on providing best services to passengers and gave his best wishes for the success of PIA, while offering his full support for making PIA one of the leading airlines of the world.
