IHC displeases over police failure to produce missing lawyer

Islamabad - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday expressed its annoyance over police failure in producing before the court an abducted young lawyer Hammad Dadan Advocate who was allegedly taken away by the personnel of a law enforcing agency.
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui conducted the hearing of the petition moved by Hammad’s father Mumtaz Anwar Abbasi through his counsel Mirza Shahzad Akbar advocate but police failed to produce the lawyer despite court’s clear directions in this connection.
At this, Justice Siddiqui expressed its displeasure over it and strictly directed the police to produce abducted lawyer before the court today (Tuesday).
The court further noted that if police failed to produce the abducted lawyer the court will issue notices to respondent No 4 who is Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and it could also direct him to appear before the court in person.
During the hearing, SP (Headquarters) Rana Tahir Khan appeared before the court and informed that police had registered the abduction case of lawyer Hammad Dadan. However, he added that police could not trace the whereabouts of the missing lawyer.
SP Tahir continued that they had contacted various agencies in this regard but no clue was established in this matter.
At this juncture, Justice Siddiqui remarked that how law and order situation could be improved in the country when police failed to protect its citizens.
He added that kidnapping of a citizen without any crime is violation of human rights and law of the land but the court would not tolerate such attitude.
Later, Justice Siddqiui strictly directed the SP to produce the lawyer after his recovery on Tuesday (today) and deferred the hearing.
On this occasion, president Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) Raja Aleem Khan Abbasi and President District Bar Association (DBA) Raja Zahid Mehmood Advocate were also present in the courtroom and expressed the concerns of legal fraternity regarding the abduction of their fellow lawyer.
They said with the passage of time, it is becoming difficult for them to restrain the legal community who are very angry over abduction of the lawyer and they would be on roads to protest if police failed to produce the lawyer on the next hearing.
