The restoration of Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges has changed the tense atmosphere in the country. Peoples of every ilk are celebrating the event. The legal community, civil society, media and political parties are all jubilant. The mass participation reflects the will of the people of Pakistan to establish an independent judiciary in the country. Independence of judiciary is so important for the masses because they have been subjugated and suppressed by the establishment for so long. Another institution that needs to be freed now is the Election Commission of Pakistan. ECP needs to be freed of all political influence so that right people can be elected through a transparent election process.
