LANDI KOTAL - At least 12 security personnel have been kidnapped from Sheen Qamar Checkpost in Bara area, sources revealed on Sunday. In another incident, militants in Lower Dir killed five people, including a district police officer and a former district nazim, after villagers gave chase following the kidnapping of a bank manager. According to details, unknown armed persons attacked the checkpost and abducted Naib Subedar Muhammad Ali along with 11 other personnel of Khasadar Force and took them to an unknown place. The FIR has been lodged against the unknown kidnappers. Meanwhile, six persons affiliated with a religious group called Amr Bil Maruf, were abducted from a check-post established by the group itself in Bara. The deadly shooting happened in Lower Dir district, part of Malakand, where the government last month signed an agreement to enforce Shariah law in a bid to end a nearly two-year Taliban insurgency. "Militants kidnapped a local private bank manager in Ashari. A group of townsmen found out and started chasing the militants," district administration official Layeeq Khan said. The militants opened fire on their pursuers, killing former district nazim Alam Zaib Khan and a friend in the nearby village of Shah Bandi, Khan said. Police, led by Lower Dir police chief Haji Khurshid Khan, rushed to scene. "Police opened fire on the militants. In the gunbattle Khan sustained bullet wounds and was killed along with two bodyguards. Their driver was also injured," said the administration official. The militants then escaped with the kidnapped bank manager. Police, administration and intelligence officials confirmed the details. Monitoring Desk adds: The armed men also made two superintendent police (SPs) hostage along with the manager of a private bank, reported a private TV channel.
