KARACHI - A new investigating team was made to probe the Baldia Town factory fire incident that claimed around 260 lives in 2012.

The incident fire had been investigated thrice earlier but the issue was highlighted once again when rangers submitted a report of an accused Rizwan Qurashi he was released on bail before the court.

Earlier three inquires conducted by police officials, FIA officials and judges of apex court ruled out the possibility of involvement any criminal elements. The submitted ranger JIT report quoted Qurashi based on hearsay. Following the controversy Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed concern authorities to reinvestigate the case and unearth facts related to the incidents within a month. The month has passed and police was not able to constitute a committee to investigate the case.

Officers assigned to complete the task were replaced while the in latest development authorities have replaced the investigation officer of the case – inspector Jahanzaib of the SITE B police station with SITE division SP Sajid Sadozai, finally appointed Criminal Investigation Agency’s chief DIG Sultan Khawaja as the new chief of the newly formed JIT.

Khawaja has replaced the DIG Aftab Pathan who was appointed new chief of the JIT in replacement of the Additional Inspector General of the Sindh Police’s Crime Branch – Khadim Hussain Bhatti.

Sources said that the newly formed JIT has now been completed while the team will also review the previous JIT report which blamed the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for setting the factory on fire over extortion money refusal.
