SIALKOT - Widespread heavy rain has badly affected standing wheat crops and other seasonal crops including potatoes, onion, vegetables, grams and fodder crops in fields over thousands of acres in Sialkot district’s all four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils on Sunday.

The situation has put small growers and farmers in hot waters, who are fearing great financial loss. According to local affected wheat growers and farmers, knee-deep water was standing in the fields, which badly affected all crops including wheat.

The entire Sialkot region received widespread heavy rain for the second consecutive day on Sunday. Rain also inundated all low-lying urban and rural areas in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Badiana, Chawinda, Pasrur and surroundings. Heavy downpour made the weather much pleasant and cold in the region. It remained dark cloudy with loud thunder of the clouds.

Local officials of Sialkot MET office have forecast more heavy rains in Sialkot region and in the catchment areas of neighbouring Occupied Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

SBF striving for lifting living standard of downtrodden: The Sardaran Bibi Foundation (SBF) Punjab has been striving for raising living standard of the downtrodden with quality education, said District Social Welfare Officer Zahid Rafiq.

Addressing a seminar organized by the SBF, he said that the SBF Punjab was working to provide quality education to people of the area. He said that the foundation was the only welfare society working to raise living standards of people in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, SBF President Raja Muhammad Idrees said that “we want to improve quality of life of those in need and often live without basic healthcare and education The state of education and health in our rural areas is dire compared to any standard therefore our basic mission is to provide quality education and health services to these people. Our foundation works round the clock, without any discrimination on the basis of colour, race, language, religion and politics,” he added.

SAF members including Sumaira Bajwa, Tafail Shah, Shaid Mumtaz, Ishrat Bano, Malik Tariq, Hafiz Zahid, Nargis Ch, Tanzeela Rashid, Tahir Majeed, Daud Ubaid, Amjad Nisar, Nabeel Nabi, Talat Maqbool, Riaz Sahi, Dr Latif Afzal, Abdul Rauf, Mian Azhar Inayat, Nadeem Akhtar Nadeem and Blassom Shehzadi were also present on the occasion.
