Punjab Cooperative Minister Malik Iqbal Channar said that agriculture is the backbone of the national economy because of the hard working of the farmers.

Addressing a farmers’ convention at EDO office, he said that for the promotion of agriculture, the Punjab government had announced a Rs100 billion agriculture package for providing them with better facilities.

He said that it is the vision of Punjab chief minister to make the farmer prosperous by developing agriculture sector. He said that the government had provided green tractors for the farmers with the subsidy of Rs200,000. The widows whose children are being educated in schools have been provided with free cows, sheep and goats so that they can earn respectable livelihood, he said.

He added that implementation of all the suggestions made during the farmers’ convention will be done throughout the province and policy will be made based on these suggestions.

He said that under farmers package worth Rs341 billion, a federal government package, each farmer has been provided with Rs5,000 per acre. Those farmers who could not take the money under the package should submit their applications in their respective sub committees established in each district for the purpose, he said. He said that the government has given the gift of tractors to farmers for yielding good wheat production which is a great step.

On the occasion, MPA Chaudhry Afzal Gill said that the government was taking revolutionary steps for the farmers including provision of fertilisers, water and agricultural equipment.

He said that agriculturists have been provided with high quality seed for their 4 acres of land which has increased the production significantly and now farmers are being provided with more seeds. He added that government and farmers are working together to increase the production and reducing the expenses with regard to cultivation. EDO Agriculture Chaudhry Tanveer Ahmad said that Punjab has announced Rs100 billion package for the promotion of agriculture and livestock.
