The event was conducted under the auspices of Khawaja Junaid Hockey Academy, where former German hockey great and former Pakistan legends exhibited their prowess and recalled the beautiful memories of old golden days of hockey. Former Pakistan cricket team captain Azhar Ali was also present on the occasion and enjoyed the match of the hockey legends.
Stefan Blöcher, who was on Pakistan tour and met with former hockey legends and current Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) officials, said: “Pakistan used to be powerhouse of hockey and it ruled this game for decades but now, it is sad to see the current performances of Pakistan hockey team. The respect and love I got during my Pakistan tour after 21 years is an asset for me.
“We used to play nail-biting hockey matches against Pakistan. But now when I came here and met my old friends, I saw my them worried about Pakistan hockey decline and they are eager to help their national game regain the lost glory. There is a still hockey talent in the country and young people are trying hard to move forward. Hopefully, Pakistan hockey will reach new heights again.”
PHF Secretary Asif Bajwa lauded the services of Khawaja Junaid Hockey Academy for promotion and development of the national game in Pakistan. He hoped that Khawaja Junaid’s sincere efforts and hard work will soon bear fruit and produce future hockey stars for the country.
