Traveling on GT Road to Gujranwala feels like being in a dinghy on a stormy sea. The jolts and jerks caused by innumerable potholes, and the aches and pains that follow might break a passenger's will to travel ever again on this route but they do not register on the conscience of the engineer and the contractor. If the CM ever travels on this road some day, the hapless engineer is sure to lose his job and the contractor a lot of money. The common commuter has another partner in his agony. The farmer has been plying his tractor on this road for carrying his wares between the farm and mandi towns that happen to be on the GT Road as are the countless tractor repair works. Now the trolleys are banned from entering the GT Road. Those who dare pay heavy fines of up to 2,500 rupees. -A. BAJWA, Lahore, via e-mail, May 18.
