UN offices closed over security concerns

The United Nations has closed its offices in Pakistan and directed the staff to discharge their respective responsibilities from their residences, reported a private TV channel. In a statement issued by the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Fikret Akcura, it has been decided to keep the UN offices closed on Friday and Saturday because of fresh security concerns. The next two to three days are crucial and the UN staff in Pakistan will perform its duties from their residences, the statement said. The staff members residing in Rawalpindi and Islamabad has also been directed not to visit any public place, it said, adding, the decision on further course of action would be taken after reviewing the security situation on Sunday.
