BNP-M worker killed in Quetta protest

QUETTA - One protestor was killed while five others wounded in firing at Shahbaz Town area of the provincial capital on Saturday. Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) and National Party (NP) have held police and Frontier Corps (FC) responsible for targeting the peaceful protestors and announced a two-day wheel-jam strike from June 1. According to details, over 50 persons were held in raids Friday night from different areas of the City in connection with killing of four police officials, including SHO Satellite Town Police Station. To register protest against the alleged arrest of innocent people, the BNP workers blocked different roads of the City, including Double Road and Sariab Road, by burning tyres. To control the situation, police resorted to teargas shelling and aerial firing. During the clashes in Shahbaz Town, six persons sustained injuries who were shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta where one of them, Naseer Ahmed Langov, succumbed to his injuries. He was stated to be a cousin of Akthar Hussain Langov, a central leader of BNP-M and former MPA. The situation worsened as the news of Langovs death spread across the City and the BNP activists again blocked different roads, causing a massive traffic jam. During the course of events, police also arrested BNP-M Secretary General Habib Jalib Advocate and Akhtar Hussain Langov. Later, the protesters brought the dead body of Naseer at Quetta Press Club and staged a protest demonstration against the incident. Addressing a news conference, the BNP and NP leaders including, Jahanzeb Baloch, Agha Hassan Advocate, Shafqat Langov and Khalid Langov condemned the killing and warned in case of failure to arrest the police and FC personnel responsible for the incident, protest would continue across the province. They announced holding demonstrations tomorrow (Monday) and a complete shutterdown and wheel-jam strike on June 1 and 2. Criticising the governor and chief minister, they said they should learn a lesson from the fate of Jam Muhammad Yousuf who now had no place to hide in Balochistan. Meanwhile, the BNP-M workers also held demonstrations in Khuzdar, Wadh, Kalat, Mastung and other areas during which Quetta-Karachi Highway was also blocked.
