LAHORE - A petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court seeking registration of an FIR in Pakistan against owners of American website Facebook for hosting a blasphemous contest of cartoons of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The petition has been filed by Muhammad Azhar Siddique advocate who had earlier filed an application in Civil Lines Police Station for registration of the case. He said the SHO Civil Lines Police was reluctant to register an FIR despite order of additional sessions judge for proceeding according to law on the application. The petition has been fixed for hearing on May 31 before the court of Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry. Azhar submitted owners of Facebook (Mark Elliot Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz), the artist (Andy) and the management of the website committed a heinous and serious crime under Section 295-C of Pakistan Penal Code, 1860 (PPC) read with Section 109 PPC as well as other provision of law in this regard. He stated the blasphemous act of Facebook amounted to infringement of social values, national and international laws and protocols as well as the Charter of the United Nations. The petitioner prayed the police be directed to meet the ends of justice and in view of Section 154 of the CrPC, and verdict laid down by the Supreme Court in a reported judgment, PLD 2007 SC 539 to register a case against the above nominated accused(s).
