SWAT Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Pak Army in a successful military operation has eliminated terrorists in Swat, adding the extremists were acting on foreign agenda. Addressing a Jirga at Wadudia Hall, Saidu Sharif, on Saturday, the Prime Minister said those who had challenged the writ of the Government and done havoc in the name of 'Sharia in Swat were the terrorists and were acting upon foreign agenda. He added the terrorists, who had given 5-day ultimatum to the Government, were successfully eliminated by Pak Army. He said that world peace hinged on peace in Pakistan. He said despite peace agreement and Nizam-e-Adl Regulation Act, militants were destroying schools, hospitals, houses and government installation, besides killing personnel of police and security forces, general masses and journalists in Swat, which compelled the Government to take on terrorists. PM Gilani said that out of the total Rs 24 billion allocated for the reconstruction of Swat, two instalments had been given to the Provincial Government while the rest of the instalments would be provided soon. He said that the rehabilitation work in Swat would be completed in the coming two years, adding that the Governments writ had been reinstated in the region. He said wherever in the country the writ of the Government would be challenged, military operation would be launched. He said that about three million people left their homes in Swat region just for the sake of the countrys safety. Talking about the Lahore carnage, the Prime Minister said that it was the Governments responsibility to provide security to its citizens. He said that ignorance was the base of extremism which could be ended by spreading education and the Government was prioritising it. He termed NFC Award and renaming of NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as big achievements of the Government. He said that it was an honour to address in Wadudia Hall as once the PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had also addressed a convention at the same venue. He informed that Malakand Tunnel would be completed with the aid provided under Kerry-Lugar Act and from the donations provided by Friends of Pakistan. The Prime Minister also announced to establish a university in Swat. He also laid floral wreath at the memorandum of Shuhada in Saidu Sharif Park and offered Fateha. He also inaugurated a library there. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, and other Federal Ministers including Arbab Alamgir and Najmuddin Khan, MPAs from Swat, and prominent political figures of the area were also present on the occasion.
