ISLAMABAD History reveals that Pakistan is the only country in the world which has produced a large number of American-loyal rulers and politicians. There is a long list of the US cronies - from Ayub Khan to Zia-ul-Haq and later Musharraf, Nawaz Sharif and today Asif Ali Zardari - who took immense pleasure in toeing the US policies and the practice is still underway. Unfortunately in return, what Pakistani people achieve is humiliation, discrimination and injustice. Today the nation is seething with anger and wonders if this is not high time for the rulers to take a firm stand. It is because of our rulers slavish attitude that Pakistanis today are abused in the US, UK and India frequently. The only demand that the nation is making today, be it war on terror or not, is humiliating of Pakistanis must come to an end. Today, America is known for abusing and thrashing citizens of its much-trusted ally Pakistan. Followed by Aafia Siddiqui and Faisal Shahzad, another Pakistani, Adnan Babar Mirza, 33, a college student of Biochemistry, living in Texas for nine years in Houston (USA), is the fresh addition to the list of Pakistanis who have been nabbed, humiliated and convicted purely on false ground in the US. Innocent Pakistani student Adnan Mirza, who hails from Karachi, was convicted on May 28, 2010 of conspiring to help the Taliban and fight US troops. According to reports emanating from Washington, a federal jury convicted Adnan Babar Mirza on two conspiracy counts and seven firearms violations after a three-day trial held in Houston. He faces up to five years in prison on each conspiracy count and 10 years on the weapons counts when he is sentenced on September 10, 2009. It is pertinent to mention that innocent Pakistani student landed in Texas on August 23 2001 for higher studies in Biochemistry in Houston Community College, Texas. According to details available with this correspondent, he was framed by an agent of FBI in a baseless case in 2006. Mirza, who remains in federal custody, was one of four men arrested in 2006 for alleged participation in paramilitary training exercises at campsites around the Houston area so they could engage a holy war. Family of Adnan Mirza believes that he was falsely dragged into the case. Adnan was a sociable person and used to supply food to poor people after collecting it from hotels and restaurants. He cant indulge himself in such type of activity, said Irfan Mirza, Adnans brother when contacted on telephone the other day. According to details available with this correspondent, Adnan was befriended by an FBI agent who impersonated himself as a Muslim and wanted to go on Jihad. He led Adnan and two of his cousins to Jihad conversations and planted a hunting gun during picnic. The poor kids were arrested for training and conspiring based on those audiotapes that were produced before the courts as a proof to convict them. As a matter of fact, the case clearly shows how the British and Americans were framing Pakistanis in false cases in order to get domestic support against the so-called war against terror. It is pertinent to mention here that last year former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown blatantly lied about a 'major conspiracy and arrested harmless Pakistani students and framed them. Americans and the Brits show little respect for Pakistani citizens today, and it is largely because Pakistani rulers refuse to take a stand on national pride. The governments of the United States and the United Kingdom have been deliberately humiliating Pakistan by targeting Pakistani students at will, in some cases framing Pakistanis in fake cases. Its one way of giving Pakistan more bad press and putting pressure on Pakistan to get more concessions. Most of the Pakistanis believe, it is a cruel practice of the western world that every Pakistani is being labelled as a terrorist. Without any distinction and discrimination from Dr Aafia Siddiqi to Faisal Shahzad and now Adnan Mirza; anyone having any link with Pakistan is treated as a terrorist. The frequently asked question in Pakistan is: Why all roads lead to Pakistan when the western world begins a journey against terrorism? This attitude naturally generates a feeling of annoyance leading to hatred against the west in the people of Pakistan. It may be recalled here that in the last April, a series of high profile raids took place in the North West of England in which 12 Pakistani students (one British born) were arrested under very dramatic circumstances. At a time when the British police were coming under increasing public pressure for their brutality during the G20 demonstrations and the connected death of Ian Tomlinson, this incident served to detract attention temporarily and remind the people of the grave threat facing this country from which the British police were protecting them. However, the British Government had to face a barrage of criticism after police released without charging them, as they all were found innocent. The opposition parties, human rights lawyers and Muslim groups accused the government of mistreating the suspects and botching the anti-terror operation. The shadow security minister Baroness Neville-Jones said, It is very worrying that, following an investigation based on strong intelligence into what the prime minister described as a serious terrorist plot, the police have not been able to present sufficient evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service on which it could lay charges against any of the 12 arrested.
