LAHORE – With minimum 14 and maximum 20 hours, the historic worst loadshedding is being observed in urban and rural limits of power distribution companies. The national grid is facing about 50 per cent shortages as demand and supply gap has widened due to drop in hydel and thermal generation.
The NTDC stated Monday’s shortfall was recorded up to 6,000MW which, sources said, had exceeded 7,000MW on Tuesday due to increase in demand. The hydel power plants for at least a month have been producing around 3,000MW average electricity on daily basis due to low water indent at major dams of the country. Though electricity managers claim that water shortage a main reason behind widening gap between demand and supply but situation of government-owned thermal power plants is also worst. Due to problems of maintenance and low fuel supply, the Gencos are sharing mere 40 per cent electricity of their capacity. People across the country held protest demonstration against severe loadshedding in their areas. They burnt tyres and kept traffic blocked in different cities while expressing their anger against worst electricity crisis in sizzling heat.
