KARACHI - Tension simmered in various localities of the metropolis on Tuesday following the funeral of two ASWJ activists, an MQM man and SP Shah Mohammad, who were gunned down in the ongoing spree of violence on Monday.
The funeral prayers of Mufti Zeeshan and Danish Bihari, who were killed in a drive-by shooting, were offered at Jamia Mosque. Afterward, Zeeshan was buried at Shah Mohammad graveyard, North Karachi, and Danish Bihari at Iqbal Market graveyard in Orangi Town.
Police meanwhile formed a team to probe the dual murder case, besides initiating an inquiry into the killing of SP Shah Mohammad, who was shot dead in Korangi's Bengali Para.
The panic the killings of the ASWJ workers prompted continued on Tuesday, as gunshots reverberated in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Liaquatabad, Nagan Chowrangi, FB Area, North Karachi and Orangi Town, suspending commercial activities partially.
At midday in Nagan Chowrangi area, scores of ASWJ workers staged a protest against the killing of their fellows. They shouted slogans against the rival sectarian group, government and law-enforcement agencies, demanding immediate arrest of the killers.
Interacting with the media, ASWJ leader Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqui gave deadline of Thursday for the arrest the killers of his party workers. He also called for the recovery of three activists of his party who went missing from North Nazimabad within the given timeframe.
Meanwhile, unrest flared up in Kharadar and its surrounding localities during the funeral of MQM man, Mohammad Imran, who was also killed on Monday in Kharadar area. He was buried in Mewashah graveyard. Commercial activities came to a halt because of uncertain condition of the area.
The funeral prayer of SP Shah Mohammad was offered at Garden Police Headquarters. IGP Mushtaq Shah and other senior police officers attended the funeral.
Later, his body was sent to his hometown in Punjab for burial.
IGP Shah said the Sindh Police would their fight against criminal element, come what might.
