Why not learn simple Urdu?

In Karachis schools like Mama Parsi School and BVS High School for Girls, the students whose mother tongue is Sindhi instead of learning the subject of Urdu Salees (Simple Urdu) are compelled to learn subject of Urdu Dakiq (Hard Urdu). Nevertheless, there is no harm in learning Urdu but compelling the children to learn Urdu Hard instead of Urdu Salees is something else and that gradually hinders the mental growth of such children by badly affecting their carrier. This creates a lot of problems not only for children but also for parents. One of the affected parents told me, they have hired a teacher by paying him Rs 5,000 per month to teach Urdu Hard to their two children as they are unable to teach such subject to them in view of its difficult nature. Needless to mention here the parents are imparting education to their children mainly to teach them English which is currently an international language whereas Urdu is commonly spoken and understood in our country as such. The children whose mother tongue is other than Urdu, they are compelled to learn Urdu Hard that badly affects their examination results and finally carriers. I hereby appeal on behalf of affected parents to the Sindh education minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Secretary Education and other concerned authorities to personally intervene and ensure that Sindhi speaking students must learn Salees Urdu in Schools and not Urdu Hard whereas Urdu speaking students must learn Salees Sindhi in accordance with Language Act 1972 as several schools of Karachi are daringly neglecting this Act for implementation. After the introduction of syllabus of Agha Khan Board System in their Schools, learning of Sindhi subject has been discontinued. Furthermore, those Schools who are daringly violate Language Act 1972 by excluding Sindhi language subject must be dealt with accordingly. MOHAMMAD KHAN SIAL, Karachi, November 29.
