ISLAMABAD - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to establish a state-of-the-art bus terminal at Sector I-11, in a bid to facilitate the commuters and curb the mushrooming growth of illegally established bus terminals in the area.

The CDA Chairman Syed Tahir Shahbaz Thursday directed the concerned formation of the authority to submit at earliest a detailed plan, which, according to him, would be approved from the CDA Board on priority basis. A meeting to review the overall traffic issues and consequently the encroachments around Faizabad and other parts of the city in the name of establishment of illegal bus terminal held here on Thursday, which was presided over by the CDA Chairman.

The meeting was attended by Member Planning & Design Syed Mustafain Kazmi, Member Estate Shaista Sohail, Member Engineering Sana Ullah Aman, District Coordination Officer Rawalpindi, SSP Traffic Islamabad Dr Moin and representatives of ICT Administration.

The meeting was apprised that due to establishment of illegal bus stands at Faizabad by different companies, serious traffic congestion problems and encroachment are being faced which needs immediate attention and action.

Chairman CDA after listening to the viewpoint of stakeholders said that there was a dire need to evolve a comprehensive strategy to cope with the problems of traffic mess as well as encroachments in the area.

He said that precious CDA land has been encroached in the area which needs to be retrieved and should be utilized for some useful purpose.

The meeting was also apprised that CDA has allocated plots meant for the establishment of bus and wagon terminals in different areas of the city. But the bus stand at Sector G-9 is functional, while rest are yet to be made functional.

Chairman directed to auction these plots meant for bus and wagon terminals to facilitate the transporters and the residents of Islamabad.

He also directed for immediate work for setting up U-Turns and repair of the traffic signals on different roads in collaboration with traffic police. The ICT, Traffic Police and Rawalpindi district administration ensured their full cooperation to CDA over traffic related problems.
