HAFIZABAD - Growers from across the district observed 'Kissan Bachao-Pakistan Bachao' Day on Thursday to press the government accept their demands for maximising food output.

They organised a rally to protest against anti-growers policies of the government. Led by Kissan Board Divisional President Ch Aman Ullah Chattha, the growers were holding placards, banners and agricultural implements. They marched different roads and blocked road near Fawar Chowk for a half and hour by staging a sit-in against what "they called" anti-growers policies of the government. Addressing the rally, the KB Divisional president demanded flat rate for agricultural tube-wells as had been given to the growers of Blochistan, fixation of support price of Rs280 for sugarcane, cotton at Rs4,000, Basmati paddy at Rs2,000 and tobacco at Rs240 per maund, tax-free diesel oil and construction of dams to overcome energy crises.

They urged the government to take stock of the situation and take sweeping measures to save the agriculture from total collapse.

UNIVERSAL BIRTH REGISTRATION DAY: The Universal Birth Registration Day was observed here and people were urged to get registered their newly-born children promptly.

Local Government Assistant Director Azhar Muhammad Nazir Warraich chaired the meeting of secretaries of 42 union councils of the district and called upon them to create awareness among the public about the registration of newly-born children without delay.
