KARACHI  – The Karachi administration has beefed up security arrangements for the vaccinators and other relevant staff deployed to administer anti-polio vaccines in the sensitive areas of the metropolis.Deputy Commissioner of Karachi South, Mustafa Jamal Kazi in a meeting held at Commissioner office on Thursday said eradication of polio virus from the environs of Karachi and ultimately from the country was extremely crucial for elimination of the crippling disease from this universe.He said Pakistanis in general as responsible citizens of this world are committed use and would be extensively supported by all concerned authorities of the city and the country. The Deputy Commissioner of Karachi South said teams of vaccinators are being deputed at all entry and exit points of Karachi, including railways stations and inter-city bus stations, for mandatory administration of oral polio vaccine (OPV) to under five children. Mustafa Jamal Kazi said that motivator would also be deployed at these sites so as to convince the parents, in case they refuse to get their children vaccinated.“We are fully conscious of refusals reported from different parts of the city, including its district south,” said the deputy commissioner.He said area committees are therefore being formed that would also include influential of the concerned areas to assist administration in rectifying the misgivings of parents, said Mustafa Jamal Kazi.The meeting among others was also attended by representatives of Unicef, WHO, Rotary International, Clifton Cantonment Board. Additional Deputy Commissioner-South, SM Afzal Zaidi, SSP Clifton City, SSP-Traffic, South, Additional District Education Officer (Female), Town Health Officer-Saddar, Director, Private Schools-Karachi and all assistant commissioners were also present on the occasion.Meanwhile, youth festivals would be organised in the big cities of Sindh to help hone up the talents of the young generation.This was stated by the Sindh Minister for Youth Affairs, Syed Faisal Subzwari. He was talking to various delegations in his office here the other day.The minister referred to the successful holding of the youth festival here from November 12 to 15. He further stated that this has proved that youth are second to none.Subzwari lauded the role of Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, and Secretary Youth Affairs, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, as well as other officers for the successful holding of the youth festival.He pointed out that half of the country’s population consists of youth and if their abilities and talents are utilized properly then the country can make rapid headway.The minister said that youth festivals would also be organized in big cities of the province including Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana and Sukkur.
