Child killed in groups’ clash

LAHORE - A seven-year-old girl died when two groups exchanged gunfire over some dispute in Bilal Gunj area, police said yesterday.

The victim was identified as Hifza Saeed, daughter of Muhammad Saeed. The shooting took place in the Lower Mall police precincts during the small hours of Tuesday.

The family told the police that a local resident Wajid opened fire on his opponents as they clashed in the street. As a result, the girl sustained a bullet and died on the spot.

The gunmen fled the crime scene instantly.

The police were investigating the killing with no arrest was made yet.

SCHOOLGIRL DIES IN ACCIDENT

A 10-year-old girl died while another two schoolchildren wounded seriously when a truck hit them near Begum Kot Shahdara yesterday.

Police said the children were on their way home from school when the accident took place. Ten-year-old Nisha died on the spot while another two children were shifted to a hospital with serious injuries.

An eyewitness told the police that the children were trying to cross a road when a truck hit them. The police reached the spot soon after the incident and impounded the truck. The driver managed to escape from the scene.

The police were investigating the incident. The body was handed over to the family.

Meanwhile, dozens of relatives of the deceased staged a protest demonstration on the GT Road against the fatal road mishap.

The protesters blocked the road and chanted slogans against the police. They also demanded immediate arrest of the truck driver.
