KHYBER AGENCY - Eight suspected militants were killed and scores of others were injured in air strikes carried out by Pakistani fighter planes here in Koki Khel, a remote area of Tirah Valley on Tuesday.

Sources said that the planes pounded suspected hideouts of militants in Khairaba, the Pak-Afghan border area.

Two sanctuaries of suspected militants were also destroyed in the air offense, sources said.

The suspected militants were stated to be volunteers of the Bara-based defunct organisation, Lashkar-e-Islam (LI).

However, due to remoteness of the area, the casualties could not be confirmed.

After clearing lower Bara from the miscreants by the forces in Khyber-I and II operations, the militants took refuge in the remote and mountainous areas of Tirah Valley, from where they have been operating of late.

In the first week of August, the forces launched fresh offensive against the militants to purge the area from anti-social elements.
