LAHORE - Lack of interest on the part of legislators from both sides of the political divide yesterday led to adjournment of Punjab Assembly session after brief proceedings for 15 minutes.

Opposition legislator pointed quorum on start of proceedings on Question Hour, causing the chair to adjourn session for 15 minutes and then till today (Wednesday) morning as the legislators in required number could not turn up. As such neither the Question Hour nor seven resolutions of public interest could be taken up on Private Members Day.  Earlier, the proceedings started after an hour and 20 minutes beyond the scheduled time with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair.  After Talawat and Naat, Opposition Leader drew the attention of the chair toward delayed start of session, saying treasury legislators were showing no interest in Assembly proceedings.  On a Point of Order, he suggested the government to appoint Rana Arshad as minister for quorum to ensure participation of treasury legislators in the Assembly proceedings.

He said that these people (treasury legislators) could also come on time if breakfast was arranged.

During Question Hour, PTI’s Raheela Anwar sought details about appointment of private public prosecutors and expenses in the head of paying fee.

Before Parliamentary Secretary Ahmed Khan Baloch could respond to the query, Ahsan Riaz Fatiana pointed quorum. As the quorum remained incomplete even after 15 minutes, the chair adjourned the session till today (Wednesday).
