ISLAMABAD: There is no legal hindrance for General (retired) Raheel Sharif to become part of care-taker setup for upcoming general elections in Pakistan.

National Democratic Foundation (NDF) Chairman Kanwar Dilshad said Wednesday that Raheel Sharif can also give his technical and analytical views on defence-related matters by refraining himself from political activities, like General (R) Mirza Aslam Baig did after his retirement.

Dilshad said that care-taker setup is a purely neutral and impartial arrangement for transitional phase in democratic process thus no political activity prevails to limit Raheel Sharif in becoming care-taker prime minister.

The Constitution of Pakistan is completely silent on it, however, only the service rules prevent not to indulge in pure political activities for a period of two years, added the former ECP secretary.

Dilshad further advised that such an arrangement would further strengthen democracy by ensuring trust of all stakeholders who have highest regards towards the professional conduct of Raheel Sharif .
