ATC hears bail petition of local landlord

Rawalpindi - The Special Anti Corruption Court on Wednesday postponed the hearing in bail petition filed by a landlord arrested on charges of preparing bogus documents to grab land of a private housing scheme located near New Islamabad International Airport (NIIAP).

The hearing in the bail petition filed by Chaudhry Khalid Akbar of Pindh Ranjha was deferred because Special Judge Anti Corruption Judge Pervaiz Ismail Joya was on leave, a court official informed. The accused has filed bail petition through his lawyer, Syed Ali Hussain Shah.

According to details, a team of Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Rawalpindi Region investigators produced the accused Chaudhry Khalid Akbar before the court. However, the hearing could not take place as the judge was on leave. The court adjourned the hearing till December 4, 2017.

Earlier, ACE Rawalpindi Region has rounded up Chaudhry Khalid Akbar, a local landlord, from the premises of district courts after an inquiry found him guilty of preparing bogus power of attorney and producing it before a court.

The office of land revenue department accused him of grabbing the land of Top City-1, a private housing scheme located near New Islamabad International Airport.

ACE Rawalpindi Region had registered a case against seven men including Chaudhry Khalid Akbar and six other officials of Land Revenue Department on charges of tempering the land ownership documents of Top City-1 and illegally transferring it in the name of other parties apparently in exchange for a hefty bribe. ACE had so far arrested four accused in the case whereas further investigation was on to ascertain the role of others accused in the fraud.
