TOBA TEK SINGH/OKARA/GUJRANWALA-A girl was shot dead allegedly by her brother for ‘honour’ on Wednesday here at Rajana village.
According to police, Mehvish of Chak 287/GB had contracted love marriage with Irtaza Joiya of same village. She was at her house when her brother, Nasir, shot her dead and fled. Police registered a case and were conducting raids for arrest of the accused. in Okara, a woman was strangled allegedly by husband over suspicion of ‘bad character’ here on Wednesday. Karamat Ali of Qamriwala village suspected character of his wife, Sajida Bibi. Yesterday, he argued with his wife over the issue. He subjected her to severe physical torture and strangled her. The deceased was mother of a child. Chuchak police registered a case against the accused who managed to escape the scene.
Two women died in separate incidents of suicide and road accidents here the other day, according to police. A married woman committed suicide by taking wheat preservative pills over domestic issue at Kot Baqar. The deceased was identified as Samina. She was rushed to DHQ hospital but she could not survive. In another incident, a woman died in collision between a motorcycle and truck on Pindi Bypass. Zahida Perven along with her relative was travelling on a motorcycle when a speeding truck hit the motorcycle. Resultantly, Zahida died on the spot.
LAID TO REST: Chakwal former additional district and sessions judge Sardar Yasir Hussain Gadhi was laid to rest at his native village Chak 184/GB near Rajana town here on Wednesday. He had died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday. He was son of late PTV director Sardar Zubair Khan, brother of Gujrat Assistant Commissioner Sardar Waqar Ahmed Gadhi, son-in-law of Faisalabad district and sessions judge Abdul Nasir and brother-in-law of Punjab Anti-Terrorism Minister Sardar Col (r) Ayub Khan Gadhi. A large number of people belonging to all walks of life attended his funeral. Prominent amongst them included: MPAs – Mian Rafiq, Abdul Qadeer Awan and Amjad Ali Javed; Toba Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, DPO Usman Akram Gondal and PPP leader and former textile minister Rana Farooq Saeed Khan. A group of judges laid floral wreath on his grave on behalf of Lahore High Court chief justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
Meanwhile, three labourers sustained critical burns while working in a furnace here at Khiali Gujranwala. It was reported that Javed, Amir and Musthaq were busy working in a furnace when melted hot material fell on them. Rescue 1122 team shifted the injured to DHQ Hospital.
