Govt urged to devise anti-extortion strategy

KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain urged government to chalk out strategy to counter extortion mafia and raising incidents of kidnapping for ransom.Addressing a huge gathering at the head office of Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation, he said that a proportional increase in the incidents of kidnapping for ransom jolt the residents of Karachi while extortion mafia also put the business community into consistent trouble.Altaf claimed to have informed Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik ahead of the law and order situation of country’s commercial hub. Altaf demanded that government should take stern action against the criminal elements and chalk out the policy with the collaboration of the law enforcement agencies. He said that the nation have observed the progress of all political parties ruling the country and asked people give a chance to MQM for the betterment of country. He pointed out that MQM does not believe in discriminatory politics and the structure of MQM deals top to bottom equally. He said that MQM manifesto and politics was based upon the wellbeing of people not for the rule. He further said that MQM seeks a liberal and moderate Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. “Enemies of the country are much powerful but MQM will not bow down before any powerful enemy because I always bow my head before Allah.” Altaf Hussain paid tribute to the workers and leaders of KKF those were doing their jobs successfully and also gave his blessing of EID to the whole nation.Meanwhile, Altaf said that there had been a significant increase in the number of hides of the sacrificial animals donated to the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation as compared to past. He said that the MQM would get more votes than the past, and the results would shock the political players. He was addressing a large gathering of MQM workers and office-bearers at the main camp set up for the collection of hides under the KKF. Members of the Co-ordination Committee and elected representatives were also present on the occasion.He said that the MQM was leading other political parties in serving the people, honesty, integrity, hard work, courage and determination. He said that no other political party could compete with the workers of the MQM in these traits.He said that the MQM was the only party that had taken birth in the poor and middle class segment of the society and sent able and educated people in the elected houses. It was because of this that the forces wanting to perpetuate the status quo tried repeatedly to crush the MQM and wipe it out.Altaf expressed grief and sorrow on death of several innocent people in incidents of terrorism and said that terrorism on the occasion of Eid was unfortunate. He said that festivals of any religion should be worthy of respect, and even if there is war between two sides it is put on hold in respect of the festival.Altaf Hussain said that the MQM was striving to establish a system in which no feudal lord or rich person could subject common people to cruelties. The MQM wants to abolish age-old customs based on ignorance. “We want to bring a system in which women will feel protected while going out of their homes, and no one would be able to cast an evil eye on them. The law and order situation would be so good that people would not feel threatened even in leaving their shops opened.”
