KARACHI – The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and town administrations successfully managed to dispose of around 800,000 offals and other wasted animal parts during the three days of Eidul Azha, but suburban areas were not concluded in this cleanliness drive. KMC officials claimed to have lifted offals from all city areas. At least 14,000 KMC workers participated in the operation. However, residents of various suburban areas were awaiting KMC teams till late night on Eid days. In some areas, people had to pay to sweepers for disposing of offals and other animal wasted parts. Residents of Shah Latif Town, Surjani Town, Gadap Town and other areas showed anger over KMC’s discriminatory policy. On Monday, the KMC and town administrations officials said it was difficult to describe the exact figure of offals lifted by them as the cleanliness drive would be carried out at night. Roads and streets would be sprinkled with limestone. The Jamshed Town administration claimed it lifted and disposed off a record number of offals as the maximum number of animals was sacrificed in the town during the three days of Eid.Residents of suburban areas alleged that the town administrations exaggerated the number of offals to show and highlight their performance. Remains and offals of sacrificial animals still remain in open streets and roads in the City.Meanwhile, Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan along with Chief Officer Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Shafiq-ur-Rehman visited the complaint center, collection points, collective sacrificial spots and the site allocated for scientific disposal of the offals in the town. On this occasion, Town Officer Mubin Siddiqui, DTO Nafees Khan, In-charge of the Complaint Centre Azeem Haider and other officers were also present, said a news release here on Sunday. The Commissioner expressed his satisfaction that TMA Gulshan-e-Iqbal was dully providing relief to the residents including making sufficient spray of lime stone, anti-insects medicine and perfume.
