LAHORE - Religious leaders and scholars from all school of thoughts unanimously decided to launch a movement against interest across the country like Khatm e Nabuwat movement.
This decision was taken in a meeting of Mili Majlis e Shari organised by Jamat ud Dawa (JuD) and presided over by JuD chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed at Jamia Qadsia here on Tuesday.
A committee was formed which will contact heads of all religious and political parties for the movement and Pakistan Shariat Council Secretary General Abu Ammar Zahid ur Rashdi will be the convener of the committee. It was decided the government will be forced to implement the verdict of Supreme Court against usury.
On the occasion, Hafiz Saeed said that the government was responsible for running the banking system as well as dealing with the international community so the best way to force the government was to a movement like Khatm e Nabuwat movement for the implementation of Constitution and the SC verdict.
Otherwise, there were several other ways for the government to linger on the issue for more several years, he added.
Earlier, the scholars suggested that the paper and plastic money should be reconverted into solid currency like silver or gold to protect Islamic culture and the Islamic economic system should be revived for the betterment of whole mankind.
They said nobody accepted the interest as Halal, infact the issue was bank interest and the SC had already declared it Haram in its verdict and now it was the responsibility of the religious scholars and intellectuals to struggle against interest.
Umer Ibrahim Odelo, converted Muslim and Spanish economist, said that the Islamic economic system was the best of all systems as it had ruled for more than 1000 years in the world successfully so we should follow the system of Makkah and Madina and should not follow New York.
He said a state in Malaysia was successfully running its economy through Islamic system and all trade was being operated through coins of gold and silver in the state.
Central leader of the JuD Maulana Ameer Hamza urged the Ulema and Mashaikh to initiate struggle against interest and for the implementation of Islamic economic system. Milli Majlis e Shari Pakistan President Maulana Mufti Muhammad Khan Qadri, Tanzeem e Islami chief Hafiz Akif Saeed, Jamat e Ahle Hadith chief Hafiz Abdul Ghaffar Ropri, International Tanzeem ul Arfeen Secretary General Sultan Ahmad Ali and others were present in the meeting.
