Acting Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Rehmanul Haq condemned the unannounced prolonged loadshedding that has crippled the economic activities. The unprecedented hike in the power tariff and loadshedding has taken the beleaguered masses, especially the industrialists by surprise and has added to their miseries. The poor nation has been made to bear the brunt of the fallout from rising prices and loadshedding at the same time. This is absolutely unacceptable, he declared.

The acting GCCI chief also criticised that the unscheduled loadshedding for extended hours had not only disturbed the routine life but had adversely affected the production activities as well.

He expressed concerns over closure of industries, saying thousands people were losing jobs on daily basis due to power crises and the exporters were unable to honour their commitments despite the fact that they were under an obligation to deliver consignments to their foreign buyers as per agreed terms.

He pointed out the industry needed smooth supply of electricity to keep the units operational, adding that Pakistan had already lost a number of global markets and the new power cuts would further aggravate the situation.

He demanded the government to take practical measures to provide relief to the nation against the prevailing excessive loadshedding.
