Punjab Special Secretary Health Babar Hayat Tarar has said that 50-bed Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology would complete by July, 2014 with new funding of Rs700 million, and start functioning in coordination with PIC Lahore.

He was talking to newsmen after inspection of the under-construction WIC at Wazirabad. Babar stated that the Punjab government was very interested in completion of the WIC project. He detailed that Rs325 million and Rs160 million had been released for revenue and civil components respectively and Rs210 million will be available to make WIC functional while the 50 bed facility could be extended to 200 beds later.

PIC Lahore Medical Superintendent Dr Hamid Mehmood will visit the WIC Wazirabad time and again along with other heart specialists to ensure provision of effective medical facility to the heart patients, said the secy. He added that WIC will be completely air-conditioned for which funds had already been released.  He further added that Gujranwala Medical College Assistant Medical Superintendent Dr Shahid Amen Khawaja has been given additional achrage of consultant for WIC. He said that relevant equipments for WIC were also being purchased. “Medical Superintendent WIC Dr Muhammad Zafar Awan will remain present in Hospital and witness the progress of work in WIC according to schedule,” he said.
