BAJAUR AGENCY - Two children died and several others affected of measles as the disease broke out in different far-flung areas of tehsil Barang of Bajaur agency.

Local residents told on Tuesday that the disease has hit the far-flung village of Sar Lara, 32 kilometer from the agency headquarters Khar where two children died of the disease.

Bakhat Rawan a local of the area told that the victims were identified as 10-year-old Sohil Khan and 5-year-old Aisha. The locals said that the disease is spreading speedily in the area due to lack of health facilities in the region.

They demanded the administration and the local health deportment to send vaccination teams and said that the situation may become more dangerous if prompt action was not taken.

Agency Surgeon Dr Zakir Hussian has confirmed the measles outbreak in the area and said that two children have been died and at least six others affected in Sar lara area of tehsil Barang.

He said that several teams, including vaccinators and paramedics along with medicines have been sent to the affected area to vaccinate the children affected from the measles. "We are aware of the situation and the teams have started its job to provide health services to the affected PEOPLE while the conditions of children suffering from the measles outbreak are out of danger," he added.

Replying to a question, Dr Zakir Hussian said the health department will soon launch anti-measles immuniSation campaign across the agency and all arrangements have been finalised in this connection.
