NOWSHERA (Agencies) At least four people were killed while several others sustained injuries in a stampede, occurred here during the distribution of Watan Cards, the police said. The incident occurred when thousands of flood affectees were gathered outside a Government High School to get the cards which were issued by the United Bank Ltd and Nadra. When the administration opened the main gate of the school, a crowd rushed to the gate. As a result, a large number of people fell down on the ground. At least four persons were killed in the stampede while several others sustained injuries. After the incident, the police, ambulances and rescue workers reached the spot and shifted the injured and bodies to District Headquarters Hospital, Nowshera. According to hospital sources, eight of the injured, brought to hospital, are stated to be critical. Online adds: - At least 50 people were injured in a stampede during the distribution of Watan cards amongst flood affectees here in Nowshera on Wednesday. As per details, Nadra was distributing Watan cards amongst the flood victims in Nowshera. Meanwhile, the police resorted to baton charge to control the situation. However, it resulted in stampede, injuring 50 people including policemen. The injured were taken to hospital where according to hospital sources condition of the five injured is said to be precarious. According to the DPO, few people were invited for Watan cards but people in large number thronged to the venue for acquisition of cards. It is to be noted here that the flood affectees had staged a protest on GT road for their rights. The protestors blocked the road for four hours and dispersed after the district administration ensured fulfilment of their demands. The flood affectees alleged irregularities in the registration and issuance of Watan cards. They said that the cards are being given on political affiliation while the deserving poor are not being registered.
