LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Education & Tourism Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that revolutionary steps are being taken for the development of tourist places and promotion of tourism will help in taking off country’s economy.

He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony regarding World Tourism Day at Alhamra, on Tuesday. Secretary Tourism Humayun Mazhar Sheikh, MD Tourism Ahmar Malik, DG Walled City Authority Kamran Lashari, Chairman Punjab Tourism Imran Ali Goraya, Ahmed Shafique and other speakers also spoke on the occasion.

Documentaries regarding Punjab Tourism and national songs were presented on the occasion.

He said that double-decker buses will start plying on roads next month. He said that work is continuing on the projects of conservation of ancient culture and civilization of Harappa, Rohtas and Drawer Forts and walled city of Lahore.

He said that work is being done along with Evacuee Trust Properties Board for setting up of Gandhara University. He said that important steps have been taken for making the religious places of Sikhs and Hindus a center of tourism.

Rana Mashhood said that officers and officials of Punjab Tourism Department have worked round the clock for the activation and success of the department. He said that tourism has great importance in priorities of the government. He said that Tourism Department has taken important steps for making Ochali and Khabiki lakes in Soon Valley attractive for the tourists. He said that ancient civilization and culture of walled city Lahore is very attractive for the tourists of the world. He said that Walled City Authority has set up an excellent tourist spot from Dehli Gate to Wazir Khan Mosque. He said that after introduction of Rangeela Rickshaw and Food Street in the old city, double decker tourist buses will start operating in the city from next month which will be a unique experience for the citizens and tourists. Similarly, Punjab Tourism Department is completing the project of conservation and rehabilitation of Harappa with the cooperation of COMSATS University under public private partnership. He said that a beautiful tourist resort is also being set up in Drawer.

Rana Mashhood said that image of Pakistan is improving throughout the world due to continuous efforts and good governance impact of the government. He said that Pakistan will be made a hub of international trade activities within next five years.

He said that Pak-China Economic Corridor project will prove to be a game changer. He said that the youth are our future leaders and the country’s economy and respect will be restored through their help within next five years.

He said our government considers that provision of platform to young generation in every sector including education, sports and culture a great investment. He said that the girl students of far-flung area like Hasilfpur astonished all by achieving 5th position in the world competition of model making on environment through the platform of Daanish school.
