ISLAMABAD - Minister for Information Senator Pervaiz Rashid yesterday regretted PTI chief Imran Khan’s criticism of the Supreme Court over its verdict on the NA-154 case.

Addressing a press conference along with PML-N leaders Danyal Aziz and Talal Chaudhry, Pervaiz Rashid said that the PTI leader’s remarks about the court judgement are the contempt of court.

He said that PML-N’s leader Saddique Baloch, who was de-seated by the election tribunal, went to the Supreme Court against the decision of the tribunal, which had declared him ineligible to contest the election because of his alleged fake degree.

He said that Baloch prayed that his degree has been verified by the Higher Education Commission and is genuine. He, therefore, sought permission to participate in the election.

Rashid said that the Supreme Court asked the lawyer of Jehangir Tareen to advance arguments so that proceedings of the case could begin instantly but he requested the court to give a new date for hearing of the case. He said that on this the court was left with no option but to grant the stay on the issue.

He said that Imran Khan was all praise for the judiciary when judgments were delivered in his favour and criticizes them when delivered against him. He asked the PTI chief to give respect to the judiciary and its decision.

The minister said that the results of by-elections have proved that Nawaz Sharif was the most popular leader of the country. He advised the PTI chief to focus on the betterment of Kyber Paktunkhwa and fulfil the promises, which he made during his election campaign.

Rashid said that PTI leader Jahangir Tareen was busy in convincing the PML-N’s disgruntled leaders for his favour in the by-election. He claimed that Imran Khan is sponsoring articles in media favouring the presidential form of governance in the country.
