ISLAMABAD - Raees Khan, Kashif Asif, Waqas Mehboob and Salman Zeb moved into the first qualifying round of the $25,000 2nd Serena Hotels-Chief of Air Staff (CAS) International Squash Championship, which started here at Mushaf Squash Complex on Tuesday, with 12 pre-qualifying round matches played on the inaugural day.

Today (Tuesday) is the rest day. The first qualifying round matches will be played tomorrow (Thursday). Besides Pakistan, a group of world ranking players from Austria, Egypt, New Zealand, UAE and USA will be seen in action in the mega event.

In the morning session, a total of eight matches were played. In the first match, experienced Sadamul Haq thrashed Ahmed Amin 3-0 in only 17 minutes. Saddam took the first game 11-2 and second 11-3 but faced some resistance in the third game before winning it 11-7. In the second match of the day, Raees Khan beat Arslan Bahtti 3-0 in 16 minutes, winning it 11-0, 11-6, 11-3. The third match saw Waqas Mehboob defeating Mubashir Khan 3-0 in only 15 minutes with the scores of 11-2, 11-1, 11-2.

In the fourth match of the morning session, former Pakistan Asian junior gold medal winning team member Bilal Zakir Khan took some time to down talented and upcoming Rawalpindi lad Salman Hashmi 3-2. Bilal lost the first game 6-11 and second 9-11 but he then utilized his experience and won the next three games 11-9, 11-9, 11-4 to score victory. Another future prospect Kashif Asif thumped Asif Mehmood 3-0 with the scores of 11-2, 11-1, 11-4. Noor Ali Khan beat Moin Rauf 3-1, as the scores were 11-9, 12-10, 7-11, 11-7. Yasir Sarwar beat Hamza Bhatti 3-2 with the scores of 9-11, 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9. Salman Zaib beat Abdul Malik 3-0 in 18 minutes, as the scores were 11-7, 11-4, 11-9.

In the evening session, four matches were played. Raees Khan beat Sadamul Haq 3-2, Kashif Asif beat Noor Ali Khan 3-2, Waqas Mehboob beat Bilal Zakir 3-0 and Salman Zaib beat Yasir Sarwar 3-0.
