rawalpindi - The lawyers observed complete strike in district courts yesterday to register their protest against the decision of the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court (LHC) of not forming more regional benches in four cities of Punjab.

The strike was observed by District Bar Association (DBA) on the call of Punjab Bar Council (PBC).

The lawyers boycotted court proceedings while the judges postponed the hearing of several cases. The litigants visiting courts have to face a lot of troubles.

According to details, the lawyers on platform of DBA went on complete strike in the district courts against the decision of LHC Chief Justice regarding non-formation of more regional benches in four cities of Punjab. The black coats did not appear before judges to contest the cases and the proceedings of cases were deferred for next date.

Talking to The Nation, DBA President Shaukat Rauf Siddiqui said that a situation of uncertainty has been prevailing among the lawyers after decision of LHC Chief Justice regarding non-formation of regional benches in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Dera Ghazi Khan.

He told that the LHC CJ had held a meeting with all the judges in Lahore recently and decided not to form regional benches.

He said it was the constitutional right of every citizen of Pakistan to get justice on his/her doorstep whereas this decision of the LHC CJ has disappointed many litigants and lawyers in the province.

He said people have to travel to Lahore from different parts of province for hearing of their cases in LHC which is unfair. “Getting speedy justice on doorstep is constitutional right of every Pakistani,” Siddiqui said.

He said government and LHC should form new regional benches to remove the miseries of people.

He demanded of the LHC CJ and Punjab government to form more regional benches to mitigate the problems of litigants.
