Shahbaz reviews development projects

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting to review development projects in the provincial metropolis at the CM Secretariat here on Sunday. Members National and Provincial Assemblies belonging to Lahore, Chairman Taskforce, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Communication & Works, Directors General LDA & PHA, General Manager NESPAK as well as senior officers concerned were present in the meeting. The Chief Minister said that infrastructure development is of vital importance for the rapid progress of the province, therefore, all available resources are being utilized for this purpose. He said that roads are being improved and widened in the provincial metropolis for ridding the people of haphazard flow of traffic and maximum trees are being planted for beautification. He said that the project of improvement and rehabilitation of Multan Road has been initiated which will save Lahorites from traffic jams as well as facilitate the people coming from other cities. He said that Multan Road is being widened from Thokhar Niaz Beg to Chowk Chauburji and this project will prove to be a milestone in the development of the province. He said that in view of traffic load and parking problems, parking plazas are being constructed at Liberty Market while Park & Drive project is being started at M.M. Alam Road. He said that timely completion of development projects is being ensured in the interest of the people. He directed DIG Traffic to undertake comprehensive planning for maintaining a smooth flow of traffic in the city. Earlier, DG LDA and General Manager NESPAK gave a briefing about different development projects. 'Promotion of Science, technology need of the hour A girl student Hafiza Sakeena Sania who obtained a prominent position in matriculation examination met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, along with her parents, at the CM Secretariat here on Sunday. The Chief Minister congratulated the student on her glorious success. He said that the fact that Hafiza Sakina Sania learnt the Holy Quran by heart after 5th class and then got admission in 9th class and obtained a prominent position in matriculation examination is a proof of her abilities. He advised the student to continue to focus on her studies and achieve greater successes in the academic field in the interest of the country. He said that promotion of science and technology is the need of the hour for national development and prosperity; hence the young generation should seek latest knowledge and play its due role for national development. He said that Punjab government is taking effective measures for the uplift of education sector while in addition to purging examination system of Booti Mafia, all out encouragement is also being offered to teachers and talented students. He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund has been set up to enable talented students continue their academic activities unhindered by financial problems. The Chief Minister also gave a merit certificate to the outstanding student.
